HSA / FSA Eligibility
Healing Room
HSA / FSA
Eligibility
The therapeutic technologies used in the Healing Room, and the conditions they are used to address.
The Healing Room uses three documented therapeutic modalities, delivered through a single multi-modality therapeutic device. Each modality has its own specifications, mechanism of action, and intended therapeutic applications.
Clients and health plan administrators can use this information when evaluating sessions against IRS Publication 502 and Section 213(d) guidelines for qualifying medical expenses.
01
Therapeutic Modality
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)
Device Specifications
6 PEMF coils, 1–30 Hz frequency range, 3 Gauss peak intensity, sine and square waveform.
Mechanism
Pulsed electromagnetic fields are applied to the body to stimulate cellular repair processes and support circulation.
Used to Address
- Chronic pain
- Inflammation
- Headaches
- Injury recovery
- Neuromuscular function
Supporting Clinical Literature
-
Systematic review of 9 RCTs (n=420) on PEMF for non-specific low back pain, showing benefits in pain reduction and physical function —
Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift, 2023.
View Study →
-
Randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled trial finding PEMF significantly reduced headache days, duration, and work-loss hours in refractory migraine —
International Journal of Clinical Trials, 2016.
View Study →
-
Systematic review of RCTs on PEMF for soft-tissue injury pain and physical function, reporting significant pain reductions across included trials —
NCBI/PMC, 2025.
View Study →
02
Therapeutic Modality
Far Infrared Therapy (FIR)
Device Specifications
8–10 µm peak wavelength, heat output to 158°F (70°C).
Mechanism
Far infrared wavelengths penetrate soft tissue, increasing local circulation and producing therapeutic heat at the treatment site.
Used to Address
- Joint pain associated with arthritis
- Muscle tension and injury recovery
- Chronic pain
- Neuromuscular performance
Supporting Clinical Literature
-
Systematic review of infrared radiation across 13 clinical studies covering osteoarthritis and chronic low back pain, finding consistent pain reduction —
MDPI/PubMed, 2022.
View Study →
-
Randomized controlled trial finding far infrared lamp therapy accelerated recovery of muscle strength and proprioception, and reduced muscle soreness by 55–60%, after exercise-induced muscle damage —
PubMed, 2023.
View Study →
-
Randomized crossover study finding a single infrared sauna session improved recovery of neuromuscular performance and reduced muscle soreness after resistance exercise —
NCBI/PMC, 2022.
View Study →
03
Therapeutic Modality
Photon Light Therapy
Device Specifications
60 photon diodes, 660nm wavelength.
Mechanism
Exposure to 660nm red-spectrum light supports cellular energy production and is used to reduce localized inflammation.
Used to Address
- Localized inflammation
- Adjunct pain relief alongside PEMF and FIR
Supporting Clinical Literature
-
Study finding 660nm photobiomodulation significantly reduced accumulation of inflammatory cells in treated tissue —
NCBI/PMC, 2025.
View Study →
-
Narrative review describing 660nm red-wavelength light as stimulating cellular photobiomodulation response, distinct from and more durable than near-infrared wavelengths —
PubMed, 2021.

Documentation
Documentation for HSA / FSA Claims
Clients seeking to apply session costs toward an HSA or FSA should confirm eligibility with their own health plan administrator and retain appropriate documentation.
01
Confirm Eligibility
Confirm eligibility with your own health plan administrator, as coverage determinations are made individually.
02
Request a Letter of Medical Necessity
Request a Letter of Medical Necessity from a licensed clinician identifying the specific modality and condition being treated.
03
Retain Your Receipt
Retain an itemized receipt from each session. Itemized receipts are available on request.
Letter of Medical Necessity
A licensed clinician may identify the specific modality — PEMF, FIR, or Photon Light Therapy — and the condition it is being used to treat. Clients should retain this documentation and provide it to their HSA/FSA administrator if requested.
Before submitting a claim
Keep Your Documentation Together
✓
Confirm with your plan administrator
Ask whether the specific service and documentation meet your plan's requirements.
✓
Letter of Medical Necessity
Obtain documentation from a licensed clinician when required.
✓
Identify the modality
Documentation should identify whether the service involved PEMF, FIR, or Photon Light Therapy.
✓
Keep itemized receipts
Retain an itemized receipt from each session for your records and reimbursement documentation.

This document is provided for informational purposes and does not constitute tax, legal, insurance, or medical advice. Eligibility is determined by each client's health plan administrator and depends on the applicable plan terms, documentation, and requirements. Clients should confirm eligibility before purchasing services or submitting a claim.
